I used to write a little poetry when I was a kid but then stopped after being told it was a complete waste of time. Recently however, I felt compelled to write something in honor of my Dad on Father's Day. I hope you enjoy it--it was very cathardic for me to write.
~I kept waiting to hear “I love you” not realizing your actions had deafened my ears.
Strong as a bull, stoic as a solider--you never lied.
When you made a promise you kept it, when you said something you meant it.
You didn’t live with us but I always knew where you were. You left the door open; I only wish I walked through it more.
You didn’t shun your responsibilities or blame anyone for your circumstance. Being able to look me in the eye was all that mattered.
You couldn’t have said “I love you” any louder than that~
Happy Father's Day Pop! I miss you more & more each day. Thank you for showing me what loyalty looks like. I’ll never settle for anything less.
